Telematics not powering up

0 votes
So I installed an EVO ALL on my 08 Infiniti G35 and I have another thread here where I basically realize I need to use the telematics to start the car. I connect the telematics (directed DSM300 smartstart) per the instructions here and it powered up but then the harness on the EVO must have come loose. I went back and looked and reconnected and it started up and went to lock signal and I had good reception when I went to register it but then *poof* it stopped working. Any ideas? It won't power up and Im wondering if there's another option I should check in the settings other than the one for smartstart in the RF section. Thanks!

I see that SmartStart was selected in the options, but for some reason it says the main RF option is off. you can see this here : https://fortin.ca/support/001A06556476/

Anything that needs connecting will be in this guide : EVO-ALL& DEI SMartStart

Thanks Robert, tomorrow i'll pull it out and turn that option off to see if that resolves the issue. The thing is that I did verify 12V at the D2D connector so I would think the telematics would have powered up, unless they were in some sort of sleep mode that is. I'll let you know what happens.
Well I got impatient and just enabled the option and tried again and no joy. Unfortunately it just won't power up. I think the unit is defective. I'll just have to exchange it.

So I returned the telematics unit and got another one but the same thing happened this time. After about 20-30 minutes it had no power but there's 12V going in. I think the EVO may be frying the telematics unit somehow but I don't understand how that's really possible.

**edit - now the EVo won't even start the car as a standalone unit. I checked the 4 pin data/power harness and there's no power. The LEDs don't blink on it any more either. Any idea what's going on here? I reflashed the unit successfully using the flashlink. Is there a fuse associated with the harness?

Issue resolved. The fuse in the Infiniti for the harness power is the "battery parts - ign" fuse. Replaced it and everything is fine now. I'll probably put a separate fuse on the Evo and smart start to prevent a problem where the car won't start if it happens again.
Both evo and smartstart may be pulling too much current for that circuit (battery parts - ign).  I am curious too know what was the rating on that fuse, 5 amps?

By the way, all this information you are giving about this particular install on the G35 will be a definite help too someone in the future (even if its not a g35). Thanks you! This helps build the community we are trying to build.
Thanks Robert, I appreciate your guys continued support. That particular fuse was a 10A fuse but I am going to use an add-a-fuse to provide separate power feeds for the evo and smartstart. Everything is operating fine now. I'm really not sure why the fuse blew in the first place. The only thing is that I can stll not shut the car off using the remote but I see you replied to that post. I'll go back and discuss that issue there. Happy Thanksgiving! - Bob
