2007 Toyota Tacoma & EVO-RIDE: Dinging when door is open, but no key

As soon as power is applied to the EVO-RIDE (through the data link cable), the car begins dinging as if there is a key in the ignition.  It continues to ding as long as the ignition is off and the door is open.

The remote start works, but all warning lights in the instrument cluster remain on even after key take-over.  Owner needs to press brake to release the remote-start, then re-start vehicle with the key to resolve the warning lights.

Module came with formware version 2.03.  Tried re-flashing to 0.17 as recommended by technical support since it is supposed to resolve the "Toyota Key Sense" problem.  Both firmware versions exhibit the same behavior.

Remote start system is Cromestopper Cool Start RS3-G4, connected to EVO-RIDE through data link.

Hi Nick,

 

You should not see this problem with 0.17 unless the EVO-Ride is receiving somekind of command through the datalink that is not (-)ground-out.

Here's what you would need to try, keep the 0.17 firmware :

  1. Cut the blue and white wires from the datalink connector. They are not required at all with this unit since it only does transponder bypass. If this fixs it, leave it as is.
  2. The first option hsould actually fix the problem, but jsut in case.....Remove the key-sense connection from the EVO-Ride that is connected to the truck, use the ground-while-running to power the key-sense and not the EVO-Ride. You would need to also isolate the circuit with some diodes so that the EVO-Ride does not turn on when inserting the key in the barrel.
  3. Redo the ground.

Just wanted to report back (finally).

Thank you very much for your reply.  I finally got this truck back to work on today (friend didn't care about the remote start over summer, so left the EVO-RIDE unplugged).

I left firmware v0.17 on the EVO-RIDE and tried your suggestions.  #1 made no diference

#2 worked wonders!  I tested using some test leads for now and confirmed that the diode isolation is absolutely necessary so I'm off to figure out where I put my diodes.

The diode is to prevent the EVO-RIDE from turning when  you insert the key in the barrel.

One additional note in the interest or helping other who read these Q&A...

I read http://wirecolor.com/en/qa/18573/2007-tundra-takeover-leaves-dash-warning-lights-on and saw the answer that stated the key-sense is not required for that install.  As a test, I snipped the connection between the key-sense and the EVO-ALL... remote start and key start still worked as normal.

So, all along, I could have ignored the connection to the key-sense from the EVO-ALL (green wire) and I never would have encountered this problem.  (Of course, I found this out after all the re-wiring, but oh well.)
